Pole Dancing, Frequently Asked Questions
- Q: What should I wear to class?
- A: Shorts, or yoga capri's, and a tank top are best, as you need your skin to grip the pole. Yoga pants or warm-up's may hinder you. We also like to wear leg warmers as they warm the skin, and get you ready for contact with the pole. They are also a good for doing floorwork, and the warm up stretch routine, having a layer between your skin, and the floor. Feel like dressing it up a bit? Feel free... Booty shorts always welcome!
(Please keep in mind that a bathing suit bottom, and a bikini top would be an appropriate minimum)
- Q: Do I have to wear heels in class?
- A:
For the first three weeks of class we will learn bare foot. We will
incorporate heels four weeks into class, however, it is never a
requirement. If you aren't comfortable in heels, you don't have to wear
them at all... However they are a lot of fun, they add a lot to the dance, and they're super sexy! If you don't want to wear the actual platform heels like a dancer does, please wear only professional dance shoes, dance paws, ballet slippers, or just go bare foot. Street shoes (sneakers, or heels) don't have the arch flexibility you need, or the grip for the floor.
- Q: Do I have to have any prior dance experience to start pole dancing?
- A: Absolutely not! We will teach you the very basic techniques, and give you the guidance to help you build strength, and the confidence to become a pole dancing Goddess!!!
- Q: Do I have to be super thin or fit to pole dance?
- A:
NO! Pole dancing is a great way to lose weight, and get fit! See Starr's testimonial (complete with pics) about how much of her "baby weight" she lost pole dancing after
childbirth! If you are not accustomed to regular exercise, you may want to talk to your doctor about pole dancing as a fitness routine.
- Q: How old is too old to pole dance?
- A: There is NO SUCH THING as "too old". We have taught women from 18- 65+ years old how to pole dance! If you have the will, there is a way.
- Q: Why don't you have a membership option for your pole dancing classes?
- A: Our classes are meant to be progressive, so it would be very difficult to have a membership option with a structured progressive class. A membership seems to work best for either independent practice, such as going to the gym, or with a repetitive class that is the same every time. In the future it is a possibility that we may offer a membership option for our chair dance, pole play, pole flow, burlesque, yoga, and any other classes that are repetitive.
Pole Dancing Class Tips!
- Come prepared to work it! As fun as pole dancing can be, it is certainly a work out. You can burn 300 calories or more in an hour, depending on how much you move in class. Having your own pole in our classes allows you to make it as intense a workout as you would like, or as gentle as you need it to be, allowing you to move at your own pace. You will also be amazed at how much upper body strength you'll build in just the first 8 weeks with a little determination. There is definitely the opportunity to shed a few pounds while you're toning up as well.
- You will likely get bruised at first... As you would probably expect when interacting with an inanimate metal object, you will likely encounter some bruising. Not to worry, your body will toughen up, and become accustomed to the points of contact with the pole.
- Please
refrain from wearing hand lotions, or slathering on the body lotion before class. This will make
it much more difficult for you to keep your grip on the pole, and the
results of a slip could be painful! Ouch!. We don't want anyone pulling
muscles, or having unnecessary
bruising! However, you do not want to have dehydrated skin either. Not only is dehydrated skin unhealthy it will actually hinder your pole dancing ability, especially if you are advanced. If you have an evening class, applying your lotion in the morning after your shower is fine. If you have a morning class, you may want to apply your lotions in the evening, the night before your class.
- Please don't wear strong perfumes or body sprays, as some people are sensitive to strong smells.
- Don't forget your deodorant! You will be getting a thorough work out!
Feeling sexy? You
don't have to wear shorts & a tank top to class, if you get the
urge to wear something a little more sassy, we encourage you! In picking
out a costime to wear to class, keep in mind that a bikini top, and bikini bottoms would be an acceptable minimum.
